Microsoft’s Voice Command 1.6 -- Review

Microsoft’s Voice Command 1.6 is speech recognition and command software that enables its user to be in command of a number of features of their Smartphones or Windows Mobile Pocket PC.. Setting up the feature on your device is relatively easy – all that one is required to have is sufficient memory capacity so as to store the software. Once the program is installed using the application is very easy; in fact one can easily learn how to use it without reading the manual cover-to-cover or undergoing training.

What helps to make is so easy is the program’s voice prompt which guides users through the different aspects of the program, explaining how to use it. All one has to do is install the program and then activate the help feature in the program.  When you do this, a voice will give an overview of the program’s features and then ask you to choose what you want to learn or use.

Once you have familiarized yourself with the application you will be highly impressed with some of the things it is capable of doing.  For instance, the mobile voice command feature can be used as a type of voice prompting personal organizer.  If you like, you can use the software to update you on your days’ scheduled activities. The voice prompt can also tell you what the time and date is and give you updates on your call history.

Microsoft’s voice command 1.6 can also be used as a command tool for a number of the features and applications on your mobile device via its voice command program.  Through voice command you can make a call from your phonebook, call back a missed call or dial a number; and also send short messages via the phone either through the telephone text service or the internet. The software also has the ability to convert text to speech, and thus it can also read your sms and emails received. All these features give the user the opportunity to easily multi task activities and to be more efficient and effective with their time.

On the flip side the clarity of the software’s sound (voice) is not that good; one has to pay close attention to the computer generated sound to clearly get what it is saying.  In addition if you use the device as a type of personal organizer alarm, be wary that in some environments the alarm will likely be missed. For example, if you are in a noisy place, the volume of the voice prompt can be drummed out by the environment.

On the whole, Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 is a helpful application that, even with its limitation, still is capable of offering you a whole new way of using your Windows enabled Mobile Pocket PC or Smartphones. I personally think that If Microsoft can carry on with the upgrades they are making on the software and hardware components, the program will definitely be the one of the “must have” and standard devices of the future.
