MacSpeech Dictate Legal Review

Immediately you come across the upgraded version you will notice that it is a genuine upgrade features to both Dictate Legal 1.3 and 1.5 both from a software and hardware point of view and if the inclusion of the upgraded microphones [new hardware] can be used as a mark of worth, you will see that macspeech has gone a notch higher with the addition of a more slicker VXI TalkPro Xpress, as compared with a cheaper, but functional, mic from Platronics with vanilla Dictate 1.5. It is therefore reasonable to say that the new MacSpeech isn’t just exploiting the consumer market so as to maximize profits with this new and upgraded software. The new and improved Legal version retails at $595 compared with $199 for the “regular” flavor version [older version].

Making Dictate Legal operational; the process is much easier than one could imagine. Once you connect your new upgraded dictate to the older versions program , the new dictate will be able to transfer all of the previous settings and data in your old dictate to the new version. Those will not be all that you will notice about the new dictate. You will also be able to create a new profile with more enhanced features. Some of this are features will be additional diverse verbal communication languages and pronunciation options.

Poles apart from the previous dictate version where the display was only in one color which was blue. The new and upgraded version comes in a new color, yellow. This new color option help to distinguish the new dictate from the older version and gives you the consumer more options

One of the fundamental reasons that have made the legal version of dictate cost more than the normal version is its enhanced industry or profession specific vocabulary database. The program has been tailor made specifically for legal industry and its professionals. In other words the manufacturer of Macspeech legal dictate have improved the vocabulary database to include most if not all the words that are generally used by legal professionals. They have also ensured that legal dictate can recognize the dictations of the legal terms in the data base across the entire 9 different American accents that the program has been programmed to recognize effectively. The program has also been designed to recognize legal Latin terms but after some trials we established that there was some need for improvement in this feature.

Another marked improvement of this updated MacSpeech Dictate Legal version is the inclusion of a comprehensive user manual that’s both in soft copy [PDF version] and a hard copy. One also has to note that irrespective of the fact that the new version comes with enhanced pronunciation features i.e. the 9 American accents, one will still need to alter his accent somehow in order to use the program effectively. I.e. the 9 accents that the program recognizes are generic accents from the sizeable diverse language groups. You may identify yourself with one of the 9 accent groups but you also may realize that your accent has a bit of variation to the accent that the program recognizes, this will therefore mean that you will need to learn to speak “your” accent the way the program recognizes it. You will also have to learn how to be at ease using your voice to manage the dictate and writing.

On the whole, for members of the legal profession, MacSpeech Dictate Legal is a very helpful tool.
