Tips for Proper Voice Recognition Dictation

When it comes to voice recognition dictation there are a lot of factors that can influence the kind of output one will get by using the program. These factors can range from the quality of the software to the quality of the data [voice] you feed the program.

When it comes to the quality off the software this variable is controlled by a lot of factors some within and others outside your control. For example cost is a factor that can restrict many people to a particular program on the other hand the quality of the data [voice ] you feed the program is a variable that most of us can have control over. How you speak, what words you use, and the vocabulary database in the program are all factors that most programs give the user the opportunity to set. In fact there are a number of ways you can improve the quality of your dictation.

Below are a number of established tips on how to you can do proper voice recognition dictation;-

1. Speak clearly

2. Microphone type and usage

3. Vocabulary

Tip one: Speak clearly

As said earlier one of the biggest factors that will influence voice recognition dictation and the performance of your voice recognition software whether it is in transcription or taking and executing commands is its ability to hear what you have spoken. When using these softwares one has to speak audibly and clearly so that the microphone can clearly get what the person is saying.

Tip Two: Microphone type and usage

You will have to make a decision on what type of microphone will be most effective to be used in the environment where the program will be used.  For example if the primary use of the program will be voice recognition dictation or data entry, then you will have to look for a microphone that will be effective for that.  For example, a microphone that is used simply for chatting on Skype might be of less quality than is optimal for use with voice recognition software.  A related consideration that is very important is the environment that the dictation is taking place. If it’s relatively quite then non-specialized microphones would do; on the other hand, if it’s relatively noisy, then a more specialized microphone would be in order.

Tip Three: Vocabulary

The program can only recognize words that it has been programmed to recognize, therefore in order to improve the productivity of the computer software it is important that you make the machine capable to perform the task that you want it to do. In this case, you should take the time to “teach” your software the common terms and commands that are not in its database but that you regularly use.

Following these three tips will boost the accuracy and quality of your voice recognition dictation.
